i thought those old fashioned ones were made to go into a fire and be heated on both sides at once!?! Can anyone confirm?

Edit: to clarify, I thought you stick them in a fire heat up both sides and then put the dough in and close it and leave it off the fire, letting it basically fry on both sides from the hot metal.

I make these cookies every year. A very thick batter is needed, also your pan needs to be seasoned heavily and heated through. Also if you press too hard your cookies get thin spots they need about a nickle thickness
